in Ecuador when it’s the new year everyone makes scarecrows and burns them in the streets. the tradition is to put a mask on the scarecrow so it looks like a politician or a celebrity or whoever and then jump over it with your friends and family. the scarecrow is called “año viejo” or “old year.”
